We’re inspired by International Women’s Day (8March) and Mothering Sunday (30 March) so we’re turning March 2014 into a month for mothers.

We want to spread the word about the 800 mothers who die each day – that’s another life lost every 2 minutes – and the many more who are left injured or sick. But – most importantly – we want to share how we can be part of changing this. Almost all mothers’ deaths are avoidable.

We have talks, films, a sponsored run, a samosa sale, a plant sale and a spectacular concert for music lovers. We’re also backing CARE’s ‘Walk a week in her shoes’ campaign to bear witness to the harsh reality of many women’s lives.

The first event is on Thursday 6 March at 6.30pm in LT3 in the Medical School at Birmingham University. Alex Sembo will be joining us live – via Skype – from Malawi and Amie Wilson will be sharing more about the remarkable impact on maternal mortality of participatory women’s groups in Bangladesh, Tanzania, Nepal and Malawi.
