Professor in Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Clinical Epidemiology, Birmingham Women's Hospital and University of Birmingham, UK.
Having worked in Pakistan and in Kenya, Khalid has first hand experience of developing world healthcare, particularly in relation to maternal health. Khalid's strengths are in a) research, b) evidence-based medicine, c) team and programme management, d) medical education, and e) clinical obstetrics and gynaecology.
Khalid is the lead facilitator for:

HARRY GEE, MBBS, MD, FRCOG
Consultant Obstetrician and Medical Director, Birmingham Women's Hospital, Birmingham.
Being the head of one of the only two standalone women's hospitals in the UK, Harry has directorship and management skills, essential for Ammalife's advocacy roles and for project/programme planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Harry's strengths include medical education and clinical obstetrics.
Harry is the lead facilitator for:
- Ammalife Project Division (with AC and SO)
SINEAD OUILLON- BSC, MA
Sinead is a Senior Grant Management Consultant. As a result of four years study of International economics and politics to Masters Degree level, Sinead has a comprehensive knowledge of International Policy. She has managed over 100 multi-funded projects.
As an experienced Management Consultant Sinead is proficient in management of a full complement of European and other funded projects such as, ESF, ERDF, Leonardo, Equal, and UK Government funded programmes. Sinead's work encompasses bid writing, advising clients on programme criteria, interim and final report production, compiling final claims for auditing, producing interim claims for payment, researching and finding labour market information, project monitoring, research and evaluation.
Sinead is the lead facilitator for:

MASOUD AFNAN, MBChB, FRCOG
Consultant in obstetrics, gynaecology, and reproductive medicine and surgery.
Masoud has extensive experience in medical training, and is currently the chair of the Training Committee of the British Fertility Society (BFS) – his roles as the chair of this committee include organising BFS training courses, developing special skills training modules in collaboration with organisations such as the RCOG and the RCN, and organising assessment of trainees.
Masoud has also been part of a community development program, and now serves as a trained facilitator. In addition, Masoud is working with youth, delivering a program designed to empower youth to make decisions about their lives.
Masoud is the lead facilitator for:

ARRI COOMARASAMY, MBChB, MD, MRCOG
Specialist registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology, and honorary lecturer in epidemiology. Guy's and St.Thomas' Hospital NHS Trust, and the University of Birmingham, UK.
Arri's interests include medical education, clinical obstetrics and gynaecology, and evaluative research. His childhood and early teenage years were spent in a rural developing world setting, and he has maintained his connections with the developing world through his years in the UK. He has contributed to short spells of training and aid-work in the developing world.
Arri is the chairman of Ammalife and lead facilitator for:

LAURENCE WOOD, MBChB, MRCOG
Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry, UK.
Laurence is a senior consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology with extensive experience in medical teaching, quality improvement and audits. He is the Training Programme Director for the Eastern Rotation of the West Midlands Region, and has a wealth of experience in organising educational programmes, and managing teams and projects.
Laurence is the lead facilitator for:

- Project Monitoring and Evaluation Division (with AC)
SADIA MALICK, MBBS, MRCOG
Specialist Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and honorary lecturer in Medical Education, Birmingham Women's Hospital, UK.
Sadia has worked in the most impoverished areas in Pakistan as well as in the UK. Her interests are medical education and clinical obstetrics and gynaecology.
Sadia facilitates the Ammalife Networking Division.
MANISH LATTHE, MBChB, MRCGP
General practitioner, Birmingham, UK.
Manish is a GP Principal in Great Barr, Birmingham. He is a GP Trainer and also teaches medical students at both Warwick University (clinical methods course) and Birmingham University (family practice attachment). He has a strong interest in medical education. He is the editor-in-chief of the primary care textbook “Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Primary Care” published by the RCGP.
Manish is the Treasurer for Ammalife.
AFSHIN BEMANI
Solicitor, Birmingham, UK.
Afshin is a practicing solicitor, specialising in employment law. He holds a Masters Degree in International Law.
Afshin will be guiding the Legal division of Ammalife
DUKAYDAH VAN DER BERG, MBChB, DRCOG, DFFP
General Practitioner, Birmingham, UK
Dukaydah has experience in primary care medicine, with special interest in sexual health and women's heath. She works at a charity, Brook Advisory Centre, which specialises in providing contraceptive and sexual heath care to young persons.
Dukaydah will be facilitating:
- Fund-raising events.
- Sexual Health Division.
SWATI JHA-MD, MRCOG
Specialist registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology,Jessop's Wing, Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.
Swati started her obstetrics and gynaecology training in Bihar, one of the poorest and most underprivileged parts of India. Whilst working there she witnessed virtually every day at least one patient attending the delivery suite either with eclampsia, in obstructed labour with a dead baby or completely exsanguinated having had a massive haemorrhage from the neighbouring villages. Her interests include dissemination and clinical obstetrics and gynaecology.
Swati is the lead facilitator for:

PALLAVI LATTHE- MD, MRCOG
Pallavi is a specialist registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology, and has extensive expertise in secondary research and running multicentre studies.
Pallavi will be in charge of producing the Annual Report.
SHAKILA THANGARATINAM
Lecturer: Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Birmingham Women's Hospital, Birmingham.
Shakila has worked extensively in the impoverished settings in India, and is now a lecturer in the UK. She has extensive experience in systematic reviewing of literature, diagnostic research, and teaching and practicing evidence-based medicine. Her interests include pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, recognised killers of mothers in the developing world.
Shakila will be of the lead facilitator for:

ANDREW WEEKS MB ChB MD MRCOG
Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics at the University of Liverpool, UK, and Honorary Consultant Obstetrician at Liverpool Women's Hospital.
Andrew's research interest is maternal mortality and tropical obstetrics. He is especially interested in the use of low cost technologies to improve maternity care (eg misoprostol - see www.misoprostol.org). He brings to Ammalife experience of clinical research in low resource settings (he currently carries out research in Uganda and Pakistan) and an expertise in clinical trials (see www.releasestudy.org).
Andrew will be a co-facilitator for:

Maria Gee
Drama in Education researcher and advisor.
Maria has worked in the arts, voluntary aided and education sectors for over 30 years. Her work is with children, their teachers and artists working in educational settings in the UK. In addition, she has worked with educators and artists from the Middle East, Vietnam, Russia and Ireland. She is currently the Chair of natd, an organisation for teachers using drama in educational settings in the UK and beyond, where her responsibilities include advocacy and awareness raising.
